Bring Back Evil Richt!

Remember last year when we crapped the bed at Neyland Stadium? And remember the 180° Coach pulled when we beat the snot out of the gaytors the very next game? It was a swagger, confidence, aggression, and brass that we hadn’t seen from him before – at least not on that level. There was even a little arrogance and a smirk on his face while he watched his men knock the shit out of each and every one of the remaing teams on the schedule. Everybody started calling him Evil Richt for a reason. He was still the same good man, walkin’ the talk, but doing it while wearing a black suit. The press was all over him wanting to know how he changed his team’s attitude so quickly, how he turned the season around so dramatically. Richt said something that sticks in my mind still today. He said that he realized there was no passion in his players and that his guys were simply a reflection of the coaches. So he decided he needed to spark the fire and show them how to play with anger, excitement and intensity again. He recognized that the team was simply a mirror of what they saw in their Coaches and they were playing like what they saw walking the sidelines: calm, flat, listless, unemotional, business-like dispositions. That doesn’t exactly strike fear in the hearts of your enemies.

I’m convinced that Coach Richt’s change in demeanor & approach is what redefined a season that was quickly circling the camode. And the proof is in the pudding folks. Even the players acknowledged it. As soon as Coach Richt decided to dial it up a notch, so did our players. So my question for weeks now has been: when are we going to see Evil Richt rear his ugly, but brilliant, head again? When is he going to go back to what worked so well last season and infuse some GATA back into a team who’s season has once again failed to meet expectations. And by that I mean, almost losing to Kenfuckingtucky, in adition to having our asses taken to the woodshed by Bama & Floirduh. But seriously, what is he waiting for? That Junkyard Dawg mentality is obviously not going to come from the players, at least not on a consistent basis.  So it’s gonna have to start with the Coaches. It’s not ideal, but it is what it is. And in the end, they’re the ultimate leaders, teachers, and mentors for the Dawgs. It begins and ends with them.

I’m left with only one choice here and that is to beg, plead, and grovel for CMR to morph into Evil Richt once again. The sharks are circling the water & smell bloody prey nearby. Tubs and his minions are determined to open up a big ‘ol can of whoop-ass on us Saturday as a little token of appreciation for humiliating them the last two years. And the only thing that’s gonna derail his little train of retribution is an opening statement of “Hell Naw!” from Coach Richt and a much-anticipated unleashing of the beasts on Defense. They exist, I know they do. Afterall, Rennie Curran swam all the way from Liberia just to whip some ass!! It’s time for the rest of Willie’s Corp to fall in and follow suit dammit! Somebody on this team is just itching to be the next Marcus Howard, Tra Battle, Thomas Davis, Greg Blue, David Pollack, Odell Thurman, or Tim Jennings. I can feel it and Saturday is gonna be the day we witness it live on the Plains once again!

So come on Evil Richt we need you, “Just One More Time“……..

  1. Amen to that!

Crap, I just realized the regular season is almost over.

As a veteran of these things Ally, what are we supposed to write about in the off season?

    Sincerely:
    Mackalicious

  2. Mackie,

Lol – I wish I knew! If you look at my archives from earlier this year you’ll notice I didn’t touch this blog for 3 months.

Recruiting and basketball take me through Feb, but by then Dennis Felton’s usual dump on the season gets old & depressing. I’m a big UGA baseball fan so I covered a lot of stories last spring & will probably do that again this year until spring & summer practice rolls around.

I toss in stories about my life (BORING), religion & politics (Yikes!) when all else fails. You’re funny as hell, so I doubt you’l have any problems coming up with material!

  3. But what if last year’s Evil Richtness is what boomeranged on us this year?

  4. Didn’t Evil Richt appear briefly during the week leading up to Alabama? All of the back and forth with the press conferences with Nick Satan. How he said he was just trying to enjoy the ride a bit more? That swarminess didn’t seem to pay off and I wonder if that has made a difference.

  5. Bryan,

True, that’s a good point. But was that really Evil Richt? We did see the fun side, but it seems like we haven’t seen too much of the GATA side. I haven’t seen him chew out refs, get in the face of some players when they screw up, or just get them jacked about playing.

I wanna see him waving his arms at the fans to get up & scream. I wanna see him rip into Prince Miller or Jarius Wynn when they get a stupid penalty & blow a conversion. I wanna see him keeping this team fired up when they look complacent or when they get hit in the mouth. I wanna see more than what we’ve gotten thus far that’s for sure.

Hopefully we’ll see some fire Saturday morning, because we’re gonna need it. The Barners are jacked about this game and have every intention of popping us in the mouth from the jump. And why wouldn’t they – like you mentioned, the last 2 teams to do that to us were extremely successful.

  6. Here’s something for you in the offseason. I’ve been benched and on the sideline since June (which allows for ungodly amounts of time to surf the web for Dawg news), but as of today, I am cleared by the doc’s to return to the starting lineup as the city prosecutor in one of the south’s more dangerous cities. Based on my work alone, it should be good for some laughs…it could also get me fired, but hey…after the summer I had, I don’t care. Go Dawgs!

  7. 17-13….and here comes the Ally rant. Brace yourselves. Not gonna be pretty….

  8. Ally,

I agree we need more of Evil Richt, but right now, I’d take huge dose of disciplined, attention to detail Richt.

  9. +1 UgaMatt. We’ve got 2 weeks to prepare for a team and offense that will test our ability to be disciplined and focused. If you want to see what that looks like when done right – check out the highlights of the UNC/GT game.

    Needless to say I’m nervous…..
